Acai is one of the super foods I use for my yoga training. Besides having the effect of speeding up healing, it’s also a beauty powerhouse!!!

Acai contains a super antioxidant and high content of fatty acids which helps your skin stay soft and glowing naturally, from inside to outside!! It also contains essential amino acids and essential minerals to help repair injuries and regenerate muscles.

The dark blue/purple color reveals its super high antioxidant nature. Like blueberries, red grapes and red wine, Acai has a 10 times higher concentration of antioxidant.  The super antioxidant in Acai helps to prevent the damaging effects of free radicals and premature aging.

Omega-3 fatty acids are also widely included in an anti-inflammatory diet. As living in today’s hectic world shows, most of our bodies are chronically inflamed. An inflamed body leads to joint stiffness and pain, which can lead to arthritis, diabetes, cancer and heart disease and so on. The omega 3 fatty acids are very beneficial for the health of your joints, acting as a lubricant. It’s also rich in monounsaturated oleic acid that keeps your cell membrane supple. The point being, our bodies need constant maintenance and repair. Including Acai in your diet helps to contribute to your overall health and  maximize your yoga practice and any other exercises you endear yourself in.

Acai also has the most potassium content among all fruits. Potassium is an essential mineral for muscle cells.  Proper potassium intake regulates body fluid level that helps to prevent muscle cramps, fatigue and dehydration.  Magnesium is also another everyday needs mineral for your bone health.  We often think calcium is solely what we need for our bones, yet without magnesium, calcium cannot process itself!!!

I love adding Navitas Natural organic free-dried Acai Powder in my smoothie. I use this product because it’s directly from the farmers from Brazil and in accordance with fair trade practices.

Here’s my recipe for my super smoothie for today!!

  • 1/2 tsp      Navitas Natura Acai
  • 1 – 2         Sprigs of fresh mint (to taste)
  • 1              Banana
  • 1/2           Pomegranate
  • 2 – 3         Leaves of romaine lettuce
  • 1/2 tsp      Raw honey
  • 1 cup        Water

Just about any leafy green will go well in this smoothie. But to preserve the complex flavor combination of Acai with fresh mint, choose mild-flavored greens such as leaf lettuce, romaine or baby spinach.
